If the Blackhawks had an MVP, left winger Kyle Calder would be the choice. Not only was Calder the leading scorer with a career-best 26 goals and 59 points, he was one of the Hawks' few dependable defensive forwards and a leader.
Rookie Brent Seabrook came out of nowhere to lead the Hawks' defense. His poise and ability to move the puck with good first passes made him seem like a grizzled vet on a young team.
Defenseman Duncan Keith and left winger Rene Bourque had moments, but it was Seabrook's consistency that separated him from the others. It shouldn't be too far into the future that Seabrook is named captain.
With veteran defensemen Adrian Aucoin and Jassen Cullimore out for much of the year with injuries, Jim Vandermeer was thrust into a leadership role and had a solid season.
