Alex Ovechkin changed the perception of Russian-born players in the NHL. Open, easy-going, fun-loving and he can play the game, too. The swift left winger led the Capitals in everything that counted and was a one-man show on some nights.
Shaone Morrisonn played hurt for the first part of the season, but by mid-year was the most reliable man on the blueline. His plus-7 rating was best among defensemen and he led the team with 131 blocked shots.
Ovechkin led the Caps in goals (52), assists (54), points (106), power play goals (21), had five game-winners, was the top forward in ice time (21:37) and led the world in shots (425).
