Dodger Stadium and its surrounding environs occupy 300 acres in downtown Los Angeles. The baseball-only stadium opened in 1962, seats 56,000, and offers fans breathtaking views of the game, city, and San Gabriel Mountains. The grass field was rated the best by MLB players in 2003 and new amenities bring the fan experience to the level of other parks.
The most direct route into Dodger Stadium is to take California 110 (Pasadena Fwy). to the Dodger Stadium exit directly into the parking areas. Take Alvarado north to Sunset Blvd. east (right) to Elysian Park Ave. east (left) into Dodger Stadium.
From Interstate 5 south (Golden State Fwy.), depart at the Stadium Way exit and turn left onto the road southbound. Follow Stadium Way to Academy Road and turn left for the stadium From I-5 north, take the Stadium Way exit onto Riverside Drive north (turn left). It would be hard for a team to fall further faster than the Dodgers did from 2004 to 2005. After a promising season that ended with the National League West title, Los Angeles followed it up by overhauling a playoff team, finishing 20 games under .500, dumping their manager and then kicking their general manager out the door after just more than a year on the job. The Dodgers were undone by bad chemistry and injuries after opening the season 12-2. J.D. Drew, Eric Gagne and Milton Bradley, among others, missed significant parts of the season with injuries. The acrimonious clubhouse was lowlighted by Bradley and Jeff Kent, who signed with the team as a free agent after the 2004 season. Bradley publicly ripped Kent and implied he was a racist, and the Dodgers traded Bradley after the season.
Kent has never been a clubhouse favorite, but he has always been a productive hitter and was one of the few for the Dodgers in 2005, hitting 29 home runs with 105 RBIs for a team that batted .253 overall. The team's best pitchers were Derek Lowe and Jeff Weaver, the only pitchers on , the team with double-digit wins. Both pitched more than 220 innings, though they combined to give up 63 home runs. With everything that went wrong for Los Angeles in 2005, it was no surprise that Jim Tracy was gone after the season. But it was surprising when owner Frank McCourt fired Paul DePodesta as GM and replaced him with Giants assistant GM Ned Colletti. Colletti didn't waste any time remaking the roster, bringing in free agents like Rafael Furcal and hiring Grady Little as manager.
