Notes:
The Rockies could be called "the rook ies" this season as they enter spring training with plans to go with three or four rookie starters. C J.D. Closser and SS Clint Barmes are locks. 3B Garrett Atkins, whose .366 batting average led the Pacific Coast League, is expected to win the job. And RF Brad Hawpe will compete with veteran Dustan Mohr. The middle of the order will feature 1B Todd Helton and CF Preston Wilson, who's back after knee surgery. RHP Jason Jennings and LHP Joe Kennedy lead big hopes for the rotation, which figures to be improved with RHP Shawn Chacon back from a failed experiment (1-9, 7.11 ERA) as the closer. |
