Center Chris Drury was a force on a team ravaged by injuries. The edgy co-captain netted 30 goals for the first time and tied a career-high 67 points. He led Buffalo with 16 power play goals and was one of the NHL's top faceoff men.
Henrik Tallinder came of age in 2005-06. Flying under the radar, the steady Swede played all 82 games and was one of only two Sabres defensemen with a double-digit plus rating (plus-10).
Ryan Miller confirmed his status as a franchise goalie and maybe the USA's best. He finished among the top 12 in wins (despite missing seven weeks with a broken thumb), goals-against average and save percentage.
No Sabre worked so hard and received so little attention as rookie fourth-line center Paul Gaustad. The hulking seventh-rounder hit everything that moved and added nine goals and 24 points.

The nickname "Sabres" was selected in 1969 in a local contest that saw over thirteen thousand suggestions. The team would play in a revamped Buffalo Auditorium, "The Aud" - which was enlarged to hold the larger crowds. In their first season the Buffalo Sabres finished with 24 wins and 63 points.
