Tommy Tuberville's team has now won or shared the SEC West Title 5 of the last 6 years. In 2004 Auburn felt it was the best team in the country but was not allowed to play in the National Title game and instead finished #2 in the polls at 13-0. Despite coming into last year ranked just #16 in the AP poll, many felt at the end of the season that Auburn was the best team in the SEC. They tied LSU atop the SEC West at 7-1 and had the best ypg (+118.6) and ppg (+17.5) in conf play but were not able to play in the SEC Titlegame.Tuberville has now won 12 of the L/17gamesvsTop 10 teams but last year a tough loss at LSU in OT due to missed FG's kept them from the Title game. Last year they had to replace an amazing four 1st round NFL DC's and their 12 returning starters were the 2nd fewest in the SEC. With an inexperienced backfield, the 2005 season did not start off well. Cox tossed four int vs GT and despite a 392-313 yd edge, they lost at home. The only other loss in the regular season was the OT loss to LSU although they did get a 4th down 62 yd pass to set up the game winning FG against Georgia and had the advantage of UGA QB Shockley not being 100%. They won their 4th consecutive game vs Alabama knocking off Top 10 teams in back-to-back weeks. Their weakest performance ol the season by far was the bowl game where they were a 10 point favorite over Wisconsin but could not overcome the emotional Badger squad, playing in Barry Alverez's final game. There was nothing f luky about the loss as they were outgained 548-236 by an inferior team. This year they have 12 starters back including 23 seniors and their previous high was 18 in their undefeated 2004 season. Auburn has most of their tough games at home 2004 season.
