Chase Field allows for baseball to be played in an air-conditioned environment in the desert heat of Phoenix, Arizona. Featuring a retractable roof and a swimming pool, the 1998-opened facility seats 49,033. The park resides at 401 East Jefferson Street Phoenix, AZ 85004
Chase Field lies within the block of Seventh Street, Fourth Street, Jefferson Street, and the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks in downtown Phoenix. Use Interstate 10 Exit 145 to 7th Street south or Interstate 17 to 7th Street north (Exit 195B) to reach the stadium.
Not only did the Diamondbacks make a significant turnaround from their Ill-loss season in 2004, but in the moribund National League West they even found themselves in playoff contention for most of the 2005 season. They have a long way before they'll be back to contending for the World Series again, however.
Arizona shelled out a lot of money to get better after its disastrous 2004, bringing in free agents Troy Glaus and Russ Ortiz and trading for Shawn Green and Javier Vazquez. The result was a 26-game improvement and second-place finish in the NL West — at 77-85 they were just five games behind the Padres — though they would have finished last in the NL East and fifth in the Central.
After all the money the team spent on marquee players, however, it was Tony Clark who emerged as the team's best run-producer. He hit .304 with 30 home runs and led the team with a .636 slugging percentage. And it was underrated home-grown righthander Brandon Webb who was the team's best pitcher, leading the team with 14 wins and posting a 3.54 ERA, the best of his young career.
The Diamondbacks' new administration, which includes general partner Jeff Moorad and general manager Josh Byrnes, set about remaking the roster again for 2006, moving the team from one dominated by veterans to one building with youth. Arizona has one of the best farm systems in the game, particularly its hitters, and they will start to make big league contributions this year.
